The Headline read, “Potential Alzheimer’s Breakthrough By Scientists in Hong Kong”!
This headline appeared in an article that I was reading after it had been posted on a web site that I follow.
I further read that; Hong Kong scientists have made what could be a major breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, by successfully restoring the memory of mice affected by dementia, by injecting them with a protein; according to The South China Morning Post article!
When I first read the headline posted on this particular site I was thrilled and so excited to read on.
The number of Canadians living with Alzheimer’s disease is over 700,000 people and climbing every year. We are told that by the year, 2031 we could see an increase of 1.4 million people with this disease.
So many articles informing us of these facts and figures can be both encouraging and disappointing at the same time. Oh how wonderful it would be if the scientists could actually find a cure!
Wanting to know more, I went on to read the article which stated; “an effective protein known as IL-33 was effective in eliminating a harmful substance damaging the central nervous system of the brain.”
There is definitely potential for this study to develop a cure for this ongoing, ever feared, dreaded disease. Sadly, it is only in the clinical stages now and can be years down the road before tried on humans.
Many of us have friends and relatives who have suffered and died from this horrible disease.
Disappointment was present today, BUT what will tomorrow bring?
The future is full of promise!
There are so many brilliant scientists out there in our world and I hope to be reading this headline soon; “Alzheimer’s Cure Found”!
