Time Traveller’s Saga

Oh how I would love to be a Time Traveller!  One of my great fantasies has been to travel back in time as the characters  Marty McFly and Doc did in their famous and wonderful 1981 DeLorean sports car.  They travelled back to the year 1955 and what a wonderful experience they had, full of adventure as well as danger.

If I could be a Time Traveller, where would I travel, and who would I visit?

I would start here in my own country of Canada and go back to visit my maternal Great Grandparents!  They actually travelled to Canada from the United States and settled in Ontario.  I would love to have been invisible to observe what was happening rather to be  meeting them face to face.  To see the buildings, roads, transportation and style of life they experienced on a day-to-day basis would be so exciting and interesting.

How I would love to have listened in on their conversations, things they talked about with each other would have given so much pleasure.  Did they talk about their dreams for the future or did they talk about daily chores?  What difficulties did they face in those days?

Life was so simple back then but at the same time they had their own hardships and challenges.  Medicine, as we have today, was not available to them and when disease and illness struck, they had little defense.  Life expectancy was much lower than it is today.

How fortunate I am now to have several old photos passed on to me by a wonderful and loving aunt.  Photos taken as far back as the very early 1900’s and I treasure them.  How fortunate I am also that my grandmother so well labelled each and every photo with names, places and years so that generations to come would be able to look at them and know the story.

So, now, back to this present day, Sunday, May 22, 2016!  What will my saga be?  Will I be kind enough to take many photos of daily life at this present time; label them intelligently to pass on our story to future generations?  Yes, this has to be done!  I can and I will do this for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Some day they may be writing a story about all of us.  Will they look back and say, “she was a great lady, who took lots of photos and labelled them so well?”.  I sure hope so!!

That’s a good one. It’s a great idea to document this age and time for our future generation. So, I think they will appreciate it.
